The Owl Mountains
The Sowie Mountains is a mountain range located in the Central Sudetes, in south-western Poland in the Lower Silesian Voivodship, whose highest peak is the Great Owl (1015 m). In its heart, the Owl Mountains Landscape Park was created, through which many hiking and cycling trails run, the most popular of which are those leading to Great Owl, Little Owl, Kalenica and Sokolica. From the summits of the Owl Mountains, there is a beautiful view of the entire Sudety Mountains. We can encounter mouflons, roe deer, deer and wild boar here. The Owl Mountains are also home to bats and owls. Despite the fact that the Owl Mountains are a small mountain range, the list of interesting attractions and places worth seeing is long.
Niemczańska Vineyard
Wines from the Niemczańska Vineyard are available for tasting in our restaurant and can also be purchased. The Niemczańska Vineyard was established in 2017. It is located on the slope of one of the Strzelin-Niemcza Hills, on the banks of the Sleza River. The relatively young plantings in 2018 produced their first small crop and from this vintage the first Niemczańska wine was made. Nature, curiosity, adventure, passion and the desire to create a new and unique wine brought together five friends (including Owl Valley owner Frank Enozel) who planted nine grape varieties on the slope of the Nieman hill. Each variety was carefully selected to create a wine unique to its local origin in terms of taste and atmosphere.
Walim drifts
There are seven "Riese" adit complexes in the Owl Mountains. Project Riese is the codename for Nazi Germany's largest mining and construction project, begun and unfinished during the Second World War in the Owl Mountains and at and below the castle of Książ. It was to have been one of Adolf Hitler's headquarters. Some adits are open to the public. In 1995, a tour was opened in the "Rzeczka" complex, which was transformed into the Walim Adit Museum in spring 2001. In addition, the Osówka and Włodarz complexes are open to the public. "Riese" has been firing up the minds of adventurers and history researchers for many years and is one of the biggest attractions of the Owl Mountains.
Castles and palaces
The surrounding area of the Owl Mountains impresses not only with its picturesque mountain landscape, but also with its historical wealth in the form of numerous castles. This is an area where enchanting castles are blended with the beauty of the surrounding nature, creating an unforgettable atmosphere.
One of the most impressive buildings is the Książ Castle, located a short distance from the Sowie Mountains.
While travelling around the Sowie Mountains, you can also discover Grodno Castle, Bolków Castle, Świny Castle or Radosno Castle Ruins, which enrich the landscape and leave an unforgettable impression. Visiting these places is a journey in time, which allows you to explore the history and secrets behind the walls of these monumental buildings.
